This Privacy Policy explains what information Craft & Calm (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit craftandcalm.com (the “website”), how that information is used, and the choices you have. It should be read together with our Cookie Policy.

Who is responsible for your information

This website is operated by Craft & Calm. If you have any question about this policy or about your personal information, please contact us through our contact page.

Information you give us

  • Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message.
  • Newsletter: your email address, the date you signed up and the page you signed up on.
  • Comments: the name, email address and optional website you enter, and your comment. When a comment is submitted, WordPress also records the IP address and browser information of the commenter to help detect spam.

You do not have to give us any of this information to read the website.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the date and time of the request. These logs are used to keep the website secure and working.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: small files stored by your browser. Some are needed for the website to work and others are used for analytics or advertising. Our Cookie Policy explains which cookies are used and how to control them.

How we use your information

  • To reply to messages sent through the contact form.
  • To send the newsletter you signed up for.
  • To display and moderate comments.
  • To protect the website against spam, abuse and security threats.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the website is used so that we can improve it.
  • To show advertising that helps fund the website.

We do not sell your personal information.

Legal bases for processing

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another region with similar laws, we rely on the following legal bases: your consent (newsletter, contact form, comments and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (keeping the website secure, preventing spam and understanding basic usage), and legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

Advertising

Craft & Calm may display advertising provided by Google AdSense and its advertising partners. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu. For more information, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before personalized advertising cookies are used.

Analytics

We use Koko Analytics, a privacy-friendly statistics tool that runs on our own server, to count page views and see which articles are read most. It does not use cookies, does not store IP addresses and does not send data to third parties. To tell a new visit from a repeat visit on the same day, it creates a temporary anonymous identifier from a hash of your IP address and browser details combined with a random value that is replaced every day. This identifier cannot be used to identify you and is deleted daily. Visits by logged-in site administrators are not counted.

If we add another analytics service in the future, such as Google Analytics, we will update this policy first.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content such as videos, images or posts from other websites (for example YouTube or Pinterest). Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you had visited the other website, which may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with that content.

Who we share information with

  • Our hosting provider, which stores the website and its data.
  • Email services used to deliver contact form notifications and, if we use one, our newsletter.
  • Advertising and analytics providers such as Google, as described above.
  • Authorities, if we are required to do so by law.

Some of these providers may process information outside your country. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer for international data transfers.

How long we keep information

  • Contact messages: for as long as needed to respond and follow up, after which they are deleted.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
  • Comments: published comments and their metadata are kept so that the conversation remains readable. You can ask us to remove your comment at any time.
  • Server logs: for the period set by our hosting provider.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to how it is used, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

To make a request, please use our contact page. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

Children

This website is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to stored information is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add a new service to the website. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
